The INTOSAI Working Group on Key National Indicators
The INTOSAI Working Group on Key National Indicators, established according to recommendation of the 19th Congress of the International Organization of Supreme Auditing Institutions (INTOSAI), held in Mexico City in 2007, is guided by the Strategic plan of this organization for 2005-2010 and directs its activity on the realization of the following strategic goal: To facilitate information and knowledge sharing among its member SAIs and partners, to carry out evaluations and to render services on knowledge acquisition. The working group intend to promote a role of SAIs in assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of national resources and to promote an increase of INTOSAI credibility in the international arena, in the design and control of Key National Indicators in every possible way. The Working group considers as its long-term objective to help national governments to promote an increase of efficiency, transparency and public trust, to struggle against corruption and to assess the effectiveness of national resources in the interest of countries and peoples.
The 3rd meeting of the INTOSAI Working group on KNI will be held in Astana (Kazakhstan), April 7-8, 2010.
The 3rd OECD World Forum on "Statistics, Knoweledge and Policy" was held in Bussan (Korea) 27-30 October 2009. At the plenary session "Charting Progress, Building Visions, Improving Life:In A Time of Crisis" Sergey Stepashin, the Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, delivered his speach "Perspectives of the OECD and INTOSAI cooperation in the sphere of the progress measurement". Within the framework of the Forum the INTOSAI Working Group on KNI has organized a Panel discussion "Key national indicators in the system of external audit". Programme of the 3rd OECD World Forum.
The 2nd meeting of the INTOSAI Working Group on KNI was held the 21-23rd of April, 2009 in Beijing. Welcom remarks were made by Sergey Stepashin, Chairman of the INTOSAI Working group on KNI and Liu Jiayi, Auditor General of National Audit Office of China.
The 1st meeting of the Working Group on "Key National Indicators in SAIs policy design and implementation" was held the 20-21th of May, 2008 in Moscow.
In the framework of Goal 3 of the Working Plan 2008 the SAI of Hungary will "Undertake the elaboration and coordination of a pilot project in the field of key national indicators describing the processes of knowledge-based economy and society".
U.S. GAO is the coordinator of the project on developing and dissemination of Key National Indicators Glossary.
SAO Latvia is the coordinator of the project on preparing of Review of international experience (good practices) in development and use of KNI.
News
Memorandum of Understanding for co-operation between OECD and INTOSAI in the area of Measurement of the Progress of Societes was signed. This agreement resulted from a 19 INCOSAI resolution to strengthen the cooperation wth OECD in relation to the theme key national indicators in order to futher make progress on the development of performance assessment based on key indicators.
The 58th INTOSAI Governing Board meeting has passed the 13-14th of November 2008 in Vienna. In the framework of this meeting the Chairman of the INTOSAI Working Group on Key National Indicators Sergey V. Stepashin presented Progress Report of the INTOSAI Working Group on Key National Indicators.
